picoTurbo and Fujitsu Siemens Computers Announce Intellectual Property Partnership
Companies Sign Agreement to Provide picoTurbo Access to Fujitsu
Siemens Computers IP and SOC Technology and to Collaborate on
Development of New IP Building Blocks
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2001- picoTurbo(TM) Inc., a premier developer of 16/32-bit RISC
microprocessor cores designed for use with applications that require
ARM® (version 4T) instructions, and Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the
leading European computer company, announced today that they are
collaborating on the development of key IP blocks for
microprocessor-based SOC (System on Chip) designs.
The companies have signed a licensing agreement giving picoTurbo
access to Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Intellectual Property (IP), which
will be integrated into picoTurbo SOC designs.
The agreement further provides that the SOC IP technology which
Fujitsu Siemens Computers developed for its own product lines, ranging
from notebooks to mainframes, will be used by picoTurbo in designing
new SOC products around the picoTurbo microprocessor cores. Future
picoTurbo platforms will be based on advanced Fujitsu Siemens
Computers technology, including functional blocks and peripheral
components, all of which will benefit the SOC industry.
Combined with the picoTurbo advanced RISC microprocessor cores,
Fujitsu Siemens IP technology contains all the functions required for
a complete SOC. These highly integrated SOC components are the
foundation for a wide range of products such as wireless and portable
devices, consumer products and embedded system solutions. The
partnership also includes the development of new IP. picoTurbo and
Fujitsu Siemens Computers expect to announce the first products
resulting from their collaboration by the end of the first half of
2001.
Bruno Kajiyama, Vice President of Marketing for picoTurbo, stated:
``We are looking forward to working with Fujitsu Siemens Computers on
this very important collaborative technology contribution to the
IP-SOC-ASIC industry. We are very pleased that Fujitsu Siemens
Computers has joined the picoTurbo DesignerNet(TM) program of premier
IP design companies worldwide. This is attributable to their highly
advanced design and development capabilities and to their
state-of-the-art ASIC development center.''
``Fujitsu Siemens Computers has been searching for a partnership
whereby we would have access to existing microprocessor cores and
collaborate on the development of key IP for SOC designs,'' said Kurt
Merz, Head of ASIC Design for Fujitsu Siemens Computers. ``The
picoTurbo microprocessor cores more than meet our expectations and
will become the foundation for many new products such as Internet
appliances, wireless devices, smart I/O peripherals for personal
computers and ASICs for a wide range of computing products.''
